This means that protecting surface water drains is as important as protecting streams and rivers: nothing should go down them except clean rainwater. There are four main areas to think about: storage of chemicals; handling chemicals, including deliveries; storage of waste; and maintenance of your yard and grounds. |


The link between printing and rivers isn't always obvious - you might be quite a way from the nearest river.
But the drain grills in the yard outside the factory and in the roads usually don't take water to the sewers for treatment. With some exceptions, they will lead directly to a stream or river, or will go to a soakaway from where water will trickle down to underlying aquifers. Solvents are a particular risk.
