Newspapers and television all have regular features on waste and recycling. Once the public become concerned about an environmental topic, advertisers become equally concerned - a poor image can damage sales.

So, they want to demonstrate how well they are dealing with the issue - and expect their suppliers to do the same. For many non-manufacturing companies, their supply chain is their greatest impact on the environment - so changes made there are often the best way to improve performance overall.

This pressure down the supply chain is happening with printing and waste management. The large corporates are looking down their supply chain and wanting to reduce waste created, partly because of cost and partly because of improving their environmental performance.
