Green printing guides

Two free guides are available on the web to help printers wanting to be greener. The first isĀ  published by Envirowise - How to become a green printer (ref EN281). This was published in 2001, and helps printers to use good environmental practices to save money and to demonstrate their 'green' credentials to customers. A new version is currently being developed and will be available shortly. Envirowise have also put together a podcast The Greening of Print, available from their website.

The second guide, published in 2006, is from the New South Wales Department of Environment and Conservation, so the legislation advice is for Australian printers - but it does contain useful suggestions to help reduce waste, save energy and generally improve environmental performance. It also has some handy checklists. It's called Environmental Action for the Printing Industry and can be downloaded from www.environment.nsw.gov.au/sustainbus/printers.htm
