Environmental legislation

Environmental legislation is complex, and keeping up to date with it is very demanding for a business. Fortunately, there is plenty of information to help you, and the aim of this page is to link you to the most useful sources.

A very good place to start is with the regulatory authorities - the Government bodies responsible for enforcing  environmental legislation.

In the UK, they are very aware of its complexity, and the Environment Agency (the body for England and Wales), SEPA (the Scottish Environment Protection Agency) and the Environment and Heritage Service (for Northern Ireland) have each compiled information to help small businesses comply and to help them improve environmental performance. This information is available through the links on the right, and is gradually replacing the previous NetRegs site.

NetRegs still contains a lot of useful information about current and forthcoming legislation, and the site is helpfully structured so that you can go straight to what is relevant for your business - it doesn't just have a separate section for printing, but breaks it down into process as well.

In the USA, the Environmental Protection Agency has also grouped together information about legislation relevant to printing companies - this page is linked on the right.

Other links are to the main pages for the Government bodies responsible for environment.
