Environmental legislation is complex, and keeping up to date with it is very demanding for a business. Fortunately, there is plenty of information to help you, and the aim of this page is to link you to the most useful sources. A very good place to start is with the regulatory authorities - the Government bodies responsible for enforcing most of the UK's environmental legislation. They are very aware of its complexity, and the Environment Agency (the body for England and Wales), SEPA (the Scottish Environment Protection Agency) and the Environment and Heritage Service (for Northern Ireland) have got together to make life easier for small businesses by setting up the NetRegs site. This explains the requirements, and some best practice, in normal language. The site is helpfully structured so that you can go straight to what is relevant for your business - it doesn't just have a separate section for printing, but breaks it down into process as well. |
The best place to start:
The Environment Agency (looks after England and Wales)
Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
Northern Ireland Environment Agency
Other Government departments involved in environmental regulation:
Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform
Department for Energy and Climate Change
